Writers' Den Digest: Freelance Job Opps & Writing Resources - Summer '24
Plus: Staying motivated in summer, getting paid by clients worldwide, and learning to deal with criticism
Dearest Writers’ Den Members,
I’m back home in Canada, where summer is a precious and fleeting gift. We want to savour every warm moment but still need to make time for something crucial – our practice of writing.
How and when will you make time to write this summer?
Notice I didn’t say "find" time. Writing isn't something you stumble upon between BBQs and beach days. If it’s a priority, you need to carve out those precious moments for your craft. Whether it's early mornings with your coffee, late afternoons when you’re fending off naps, or instead of an hour or two of TV in the evenings, committing to writing means making it a part of your daily routine.
If you're short on work at the moment, take this opportunity to evaluate where you want to focus your writing efforts. What's been working well for you? What's frustrating you? Are there stories or freelance jobs sitting on your desk needing some love? What’s it going to take to move them along, and what comes next for you?
It’s also a good time to polish up your portfolio and get ready for Q3, when companies and organizations are planning their 2025 marketing budgets (a prime time for freelance writers to negotiate monthly service contracts).
Successful freelancers are always looking ahead and lining up work so it’s ready when they are. To that end, full Writers’ Den members will find some high-quality remote work, freelance jobs, and pitching opportunities below.
